Anchor House

Anchor House, Inc.

“This hope we have as an anchor of the soul a hope both sure and steadfast.” (Hebrews 6:19)

Who is it for?

Anchor House, so named because it provides residents with an "anchor" in a safe harbor from which to fight the destructiveness of substance abuse, offers a Christ centered approach to recovery and self-sufficiency.  Anchor House is a subsidiary of The United Methodist City Society and a licensed provider for Substance Use Disorders by the Office of Alcohol and Substance Abuse Services (OASAS), it is the only faith based program funded by the State of New York.

To truly see the transformational power of Christ, we need only to look at Anchor House, where men and women become "new creations" after a life of addiction.  They move back into society with a job, an apartment, and a faith that will anchor them from the storms of life.

Approach to Recovery

Anchor House promotes recovery from substances by supporting individuals through a system of care that is based on the attainment of goals and forming an individualized treatment/recovery plan in support of achieving those goals.  Progress towards meeting the goals within each stage is based on the individual’s achievement of milestones throughout their journey.  Each resident works with a counselor to identify objectives associated with each goal while receiving services.

The men’s program at Bergen Street in Brooklyn serves up to 50 men and the Women’s program on Park Place services up to 28 women.

Noteworthy News!

Anchor House, “The House of Hope” has seen tremendous resurgence under Alison King, MSW, Director.

After three years of anticipation through faith, they have been blessed to receive an award from Governor Cuomo with an increase in bed capacity for men from 50 to 70 beds.  The increase in beds will now provide for OASAS and the NYS Dormitory Authority to help the board and staff plan for the men’s facility on Bergen Street to have an addition added where the current parking lot is located.  An entire renovation of the facility will lead us into a new era with 70 beds.

As of October 5th, 2018, Anchor House is now a Medicaid Managed Care provider.  This new status allows Anchor House to reach further to a diverse group of individuals and offer a range of services including, but not limited to:

  1.  Short term care (90 days) to long term care (Approximately 12 months)
  2. Medically monitored oversight with a medical doctor who specializes in addiction treatment
  3. Direct billing to managed care companies on a “fee per day” basis for each client in treatment
  4. Hiring of Licensed Clinical Social Workers and more
