Anchor House

A Faith-Based Approach to Recovery

Anchor House, a subsidiary of The United Methodist City Society, is a licensed provider for substance use disorders by the Office of Alcohol and Substance Abuse Services (OASAS). It offers a unique faith-based approach to recovery and self-sufficiency.
Our mission is to provide a true anchor; a stable and reliable foundation where the soul is refreshed, and restored and hope is born again. We use a trauma-informed, integrated biopsychosocial, and holistic approach to substance use disorder. The goal is for men and women to return to their families as healthy, productive, and self-sufficient members of their communities empowered to reach their destinies.

Noteworthy News:
Under the leadership of Alison King, MSW, Director, Anchor House has seen a remarkable resurgence. After three years of anticipation, they received an award from Governor Cuomo and the bed capacity for men has increased from 50 to 70 beds. This increase in beds will allow for an addition to be added to the Bergen Street location where the current parking lot is located. The entire renovation of the facility will lead them into a new era with 70 beds. In 2018, Anchor House became a Medicaid Managed Care provider. This status allows Anchor House to reach a diverse group of individuals and offer a range of services, including:

Short-term care long-term care

Medically monitored oversight with a treatment specialist

Direct billing to managed care companies on a "fee per day" basis for each client in treatment

Support from licensed clinical social workers.

Spiritual Growth and Renewal:
Anchor House believes that a defined set of values and principles will result in effective behaviors, attitudes, and life structure. In addition to clinical services, they offer many non-clinical and spiritual groups, workshops, and workgroups. Under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, they are credentialed with a knowledge base of clinical skills and spiritual authority to bring women and men to a level of self-sufficiency. The optional spiritual curriculum incorporates activities and workshops teaching practical applications for spiritual living.
Approach to Recovery:

Anchor House uses a system of care based on goal attainment and an individualized treatment/recovery plan. Progress towards each goal is tracked by the resident’s achievement of milestones throughout their journey.

Each resident collaborates with a counselor to identify objectives associated with each goal while receiving services. The Bergen Street location in Brooklyn serves up to 50 men and the Park Place location services up to 28 women.
