Rev. Dr. William S. Shillady
Rev. Dr. William S. Shillady has served as Executive Director of the United Methodist City Society for the past 10 years, since September 2008. Before taking this position, he served as a pastor for 29 years.
A native of Reading, Pennsylvania, Rev. Shillady received his undergraduate degree in Religion and Business Administration from Lebanon Valley College. He serves as a member of the Board of Trustees of the college.
In 1981, he earned a Master of Divinity degree from Duke Divinity School. He served as a member of the Board of Visitors of the Divinity School from 2007 to 2013 and is now an emeritus member.
After seminary, Rev. Shillady served one year in the Eastern Pennsylvania Conference at Hawes Avenue United Methodist Church in Norristown, PA. In 1982 he transferred to the New York Conference and served for six years as associate pastor to Rev. Dr. Clayton Miller at Asbury-Crestwood United Methodist Church in Yonkers, New York.
In 1988 he was appointed to the Mamaroneck United Methodist Church on the Sound shore in Westchester, where he was senior pastor for 11 years. During his tenure, the church raised funds and accomplished a major restoration project, prompted by the 2,000 pound church bell falling through the steeple one memorable Sunday morning. Also during this period, Shillady earned a Doctor of Ministry degree from Drew Theological School in 1993.
In 1999, he was appointed to the Park Avenue United Methodist Church on the upper east side of Manhattan, where he served as senior pastor for 9 1/2 years.
On September 1, 2008 Shillady became the Executive Director of the United Methodist City Society.
Over the years, Rev. Shillady has served on a variety of boards and committees of the New York Annual Conference, as well as community based programs and boards. He is currently the co-chair of the Committee on Episcopacy and a registrar for the Board of Ordained Ministry. He served as the chairperson of the Board of Pension and Health Benefits of the Conference for 8 years. He has been a mentor to candidates for ministry and serves on the District Committee on Ministry.
He represented the NYAC at the General Conference in 2012 and 2016. He is a member of the Cabinet of the New York Annual Conference. Shillady has been appointed by Mayor Bill De Blasio as a member of the Mayor’s Faith leaders Advisory Council for the City of New York.
Shillady also co-officiated with Rabbi James Ponet at the Chelsea Clinton-Marc Mesvinsky wedding in July 2010. He led the memorial service of Dorothy Rodham, the mother of Hillary Rodham Clinton. He maintains a pastoral relationship with the Clinton family.
Associate Executive Director
Ms. Callender began her career at UMCS as the Director of Children’s Programs and was the first person to serve the agency in that capacity. She Prior to joining the City Society, Ms. Callender served as a Senior Program Associate at the Federation of Protestant Welfare Agencies and a Senior Program Specialist at the Girl Scout Council of Greater New York.
Chief Financial Officer
A CPA having worked most of his career in non-profits, Simeon became the Chief Financial Officer as of January 1, 2012.
Children's Program Director
Prior to working at the City Society, Aisha served as the Program Director at Five Points Mission-Camp Olmsted. As the Director of Children’s Programs, Aisha provides churches with resources, best practices and professional development training for youth programs. She holds degrees in Marketing, Management and Advertising.
Before she began her career at the City Society, Young served as a clerk for 4 years at the Korean Commercial Bank (now Woori Bank) in New York.
Daffnie is the newest member of the staff joining the City Society effective February 2016. She is the Office Coordinator/ Administrative Assistant. Prior to her position at the City Society she served as the Senior Administrative Assistant for the Head Start/ Early head Start programs for Northside Center for Child Development for 8 years.
