Dear Friend of Olmsted,
I am writing to you on behalf of Camp Olmsted, the United Methodist City Society’s summer program for children from New York City. We will be having a benefit to raise funds for camper scholarships on Thursday, June 2nd at Christ Church United Methodist in Manhattan.
Our honorees this year are Bishop Jane Allen Middleton and the Darien United Methodist Church in Connecticut. Both are being recognized for their commitment to the service of children and their relationship with Olmsted Center. The event will include refreshments, a short program and a silent auction. Please note this is not a sit down dinner.
Camp Olmsted is located in Cornwall-on-Hudson, New York and has been serving children from New York City’s neighborhoods for over 100 years. Our program serves boys and girls between the ages of 6 and 13 years and often provides their first outdoor camping experience. The fee is $435 per camper per session, while our actual costs are over $1,100 per child. Even with this highly subsidized fee, it is still far above the means of many of the families we serve.
Last year because of the support of so many individuals, agencies and congregations – over 60% of the children attending Camp Olmsted received financial assistance. Donations help Five Points Mission provide the necessary scholarship support to these campers and allow them the opportunity to experience “Camp Olmsted”.
We hope you will join us! Please send in the response card and reserve your space. If you are not able to join us on June 2nd but would like to assist us with scholarship support for Camp Olmsted please send your check to:
